closeing the bale manually will reduce line twist and prolong the life of the reel….thought you should know

Excellent advice, prosteelheader. Always check the line before retrieval. Closing the bail manually also is supposed to help prevent line twist problems. Unfortunately some of my old school spinning reels won’t release the bail without rotating the head ( 1950-1980ish Mitchell/Garcia Mitchell 300 & 400 series).

you CAN, but i wouldn’t. the eye’s on the baitcasting rod would cause a pretty sharp bend in the line on the spinning reel.

        Yes you can

On the Quantum Snapshot i have their is no need to put your finger on the line and the trigger I usually reverse reel to where my reel stops and when I do that it puts the trigger top dead center then I just pull the trigger and make my cast all in one fluid motion, its way faster to cast back out then a regular open face reel I’m surprised more R&D hasn’t been put into making tournament grade trigger based open faced reels I know I would be seriously looking into buying one…

Very true steelheader. Thats what I do when I cast. Otherwise, you sometimes get a birdnest around your reel. Spinning rod and reel combo is what I use on the fat Susquehanna smallies here in PA.

you forgot to ad one thing. you should never just crank the crank as a means of closing the bail. instead, try this. as soon as the lure hits the water, give a quick glance at the reel. making sure all is good with your line. if so, close it with your free hand. this will ensure that the line has come off smoothly, without spooling off any excess, or getting wrapped around the bail during that 1st crank. you dont want a big rats nest because you just cranked the thing over without checking.
